KYSA Programs Information
Below are brief descriptions of areas of soccer and how KYSA fits into them. For more detailed information just click on the logo where you'll be directed to the appropriate site. If you still have questions please feel free to contact a KYSA board member.

US YOUTH SOCCER is a member of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Youth Council, the governing body for soccer in the United States. US YOUTH SOCCER is a nationwide body of over 3,000,000 registered youth soccer players between the ages of five and nineteen. US YOUTH SOCCER is made up of 55 member State Associations; one in each state, and two in California, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
The US YOUTH SOCCER membership is divided into four regions. East (Region I), Midwest (Region II), South (Region III) and Far West (Region IV). Region IV consists of the following state associations: Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Washington Youth Soccer WYS, has seven districts.
District 3 is made up of nine soccer associations and is one of seven districts in the state. Greater Renton Junior Soccer Association GRJSA, Highline Soccer Association HSA , Federal Way Soccer Association FWSA, Maple Valley Soccer Association MVSA, Auburn AYSA, Mount Rainer Soccer Association MRSA, Tacoma Pierce Junior Soccer Association TPJSA, Narrows Youth Soccer Association NarYSA, and KYSA.
KYSA is a member of D3. It operates a Mod program for ages U5-U10 age group in the fall and spring, A Recreational program for ages U11-U18, a select program for kids U11-U18 (Kent FC), a boys club, South County Futbol club (SCFC) that plays U10Dev to U18, and a PDL club (Dos FC Premier) that plays ages U10Dev to U18.
Dos FC Premier serves boys and girls and currently plays in the PDL (see link below). Dos FC's primary goal is to develop, nurture, and promote every player to the highest level. Our intent is to offer a highly competitive program that caters to and prepares players who are seeking to reach a higher level of play. Dos FC Premier is a member club with KYSA. We strive for Pride, Passion, and Prominence, which establishes a successful program and a winning tradition.
Kent United (Select) boys and girls teams are formed through the try out process, yet can have a wider variety of skill level in players. Teams have the ability to play at all levels in district and state league play. The teams have freedom in tournament choices and intensity of commitment. Coaches tend to come from the Mod or Rec program and are working on E and D licenses. They are usually parents. Typically, costs are lower than club play. The teams are operated by KYSA through the VP of Development.
The Recreational (a.k.a. Rec) program continues our Modified philosophy of teaching the players the skills and tactics of the game of soccer. The term recreational refers to the recreational versus competitive emphasis of the program. While players must be chosen for the Select teams through a tryout phase, everyone has the right to play on a Rec team. KYSA desires all players to have a fun soccer experience. The Rec program is open to all players age 10 through 17.
The Modified (a.k.a. Mod) soccer program is for boys and girls, ages 4 through 9 (see Age Chart). "Small Sided" soccer allows for proper development of the player and gives the coach an opportunity to manage instruction and mentoring of each player. Children are grouped in single-year age brackets, with boys and girls playing together in the lower age bracket. In the U5 (Under 5) bracket, for example, there are 3 players (and no goalie) on the field at one time, while at the U10 level, teams play 6-a-side with a goalie. The emphasis of the league is on fun and development. Scores are not kept, and team standings are not compiled. There are 2 seasons per year; spring and fall, each consisting of approximately 8 games. Registration is in May-Jun & Dec-Jan.
The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) identifies and develops the outstanding youth soccer players in the state and presents them to the Regional Olympic Development Program. Regional ODP players, in turn, become candidates for the National Youth Teams. Washington Youth Soccer player pools and scouting program identifies the best youth players throughout the state in each age group and brings them together as a team to compete and further develop their talents.
The Player Development League (PDL) seeks to play "like vs. like" teams in competitive leagues among clubs that consistently demonstrate the ability to develop Championship Cup caliber teams. Clubs must qualify for entrance. Current members are: Blackhills, Columbia, Crossfire, Dos FC, Eastside, Emerald City, Evergreen, FC Alliance, Federal Way, Greater Renton FC, Harbor FC, Highline Premier FC, NW Nationals, Spokane Shadow, Snohomish United, Sun City, Washington Premier, Westsound, Whatcom, FC Vancouver.
US Club Soccer is a non-profit organization committed to the support and development of competitive soccer clubs. It is founded on the belief that soccer clubs, which are in the business of elite player development, need an organization of their own to foster growth, address concerns, and sanction and provide programs with a minimum of rules and restrictions. US Club currently runs a spring and fall league out of Starfire called the PSPL. It is not affiliated with WYS, but KYSA does have teams that play games within US Club.
Kent Parks and Covington Community Sports run recreational parks programs and are not affiliated with Washington Youth Soccer. They do not abide by US Youth soccer rules. They are programs directly associated with the cities they reside. KYSA works with both programs to help educate families on the differences between a parks recreational program and a developmental program. We also work with them to provide opportunities for those kids U5 to U10 looking for Spring soccer programs (Kent Parks) and for those kids U13 and above who are no longer served by the parks programs.
The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is an association governed by Swiss law founded in 1904 and based in Zurich. It has 208 member associations and its goal, enshrined in its Statutes, is the constant improvement of football.
